BrittanyLewis-0080-EditBut they’re digital right?

You may not realize this but 99% of the time the final images you receive from me or most high end photographers will have some sort of editing or post processing done to them. Even though the pictures captured these days are mostly on digital cameras, the files that they render aren’t too far away from needing the same attention that the traditional film images needed.

Although the techniques and actual ways to edit the two physically differ entirely, the same, and actually more, adjustments and creative flair can be done on the digital negatives. What the digital age has brought photographers is more tools, more options, and even more artistic and creative options to our art. This benefits ourselves and our clients in so many ways, that it will have to be a topic on its own.

But you have a real expensive fancy camera…

The camera’s most professionals use are very high quality and do take spectacular images. But the camera is just a tool, one of many that will get used to create the images you want. Like any skilled craftsmen there are a large array of tools that get used to accomplish the final product. Do you think just because a cabinet maker has a really nice saw to cut the wood that the other tools they use to finish off the product don’t matter? What about the glue and screws? What about the sandpaper and stain used to finish out the wood?

Like the sandpaper and stain and many other things you can think of in my example above, the camera gives a great starting point but the images still need finishing touches put on them so they can live on your wall, your desks, and wherever you proudly display them in the highest quality possible.

Editing takes time.

Just like processing film, editing digital images takes time. Most of this is included on the costs of hiring your photographer and is one of the main reasons your images aren’t available to you immediately.

If there are any harder or more time consuming edits that you request above and beyond what was talked about or agreed upon, you can usually expect to pay additional for those edits as well as adding additional time to the delivery date.
