Part 2 of the Small Business and Social Media Series

Judging from a recent surge in subscriptions to my RSS feed I’d say I hit upon an area of interest with my readers. It would also appear that the title I choose for the introduction to this series “Small Business and Social Media” was also right on target. I know this to be true due to the number of new visitors to my blog from the search engines searching for that exact phrase since publishing that blog post.

Before we get into today’s topic I’d like to call your attention to the title of this post, “Small Business, Social Marketing and Yelp”. Did you notice that I changed it up just a little? Trading out Media for Marketing, and adding Yelp. If you’re wondering why I bring this up and why it’s important you’ll want to subscribe to my RSS feed if you haven’t already because that’s the topic of another blog post in an upcoming series on how to optimize your web presents.

Okay now we’re ready to get down and dirty.

Remember in the introduction to this series I showed you that you may very well have a negative web presents and not even be aware of it. In that post I used a social site called Yelp to demonstrate that very real possibility.

Today I’m going to show you how you can actually use Yelp to your advantage and yes that includes those not so nice and sometimes very negative reviews and comments about your place of business.

I know at this point you may be thinking, oh no, this is going to be complicated isn’t it? I simply don’t have time for this. If that’s the case you’re in for a pleasant surprise. It’s really quit easy and takes very little time and Yelp will help you every step of the way.

That’s right Yelp will show how to find all the reviews and comments about your business on Yelp and show you how to respond to them. Yelp’s Business Owner’s Guide is a great resource for the business owner with lots of free tools to help put you in front of lots of new customers.

Over 21 million people visited Yelp in May 2009 to make spending decisions. Isn’t it time you were there for them to find and learn about the real you and your business.
