Project America Run 2010
I just ran across blog called Project America Run. The tagline on the header of this blog reads One Flag. One Mile. One Life.
Project America Run was conceived to Honor and Remember our fallen service members from the Iraq war by Mike Ehredt, a retired US Postal worker and ultra runner, from Driggs, Idaho. Mike started the blog to journal his travels as he runs across America.
Family members and friends helped Mike label 4375 yellow ribbons, each bearing the Name, Rank, Age and Hometown of a Soldier or Marine who died in Iraq. They attached the ribbons to 4375 flags, to be placed each mile along the roadside until his task is complete, with the last flag placed at the water’s edge in Maine.
With three years of planning behind him Mike began his journey on May 1st, 2010 at the Pacific Coast in Astoria, OR. By time his journey is complete at the Atlantic Ocean, in Rockland, ME. he will have traveled 4551 miles and will have placed 4375 flags with yellow ribbons attached.
Along the way Mike will spend each night with a host family, people Mike has never met, 160 in all. Some of them are the families of a deceased service member. All of them have opened their homes to him and his mission.
Mike will also stop along the way to speak with 30 high school and college cross country/track teams as he makes his way across the United States. They will all run a few miles with him and carry a flag. Mike says he wants our next generation of leaders to understand the sacrifices made by those who led before them.
If you’d like to learn more about Mike and Project Run America you can visit the Project Run America page.
Mike, we all wish you well and God bless you, the families of these fallen heroes, this country and the freedom they all fought to defend.
