Social Media

Part 3 – Small Business and Social Media Series

-

Don’t Think Twitter is Important to Your Business

If you’re among the majority of small business owners that think Twitter’s not important to their business, and is actually a huge waste of time, you had better think again.

Before I go any further let me say I realize all to well that this article is not going to be received well by many. Many will not like or appreciate what I’m about to tell you. Yes, it may even leave some of you upset with me. However I’d be doing you a dis-service by candy coating the important of micro-blogging in regards to the future of your business and glossing over the facts.

  • Fact one: Twitter is the fastest going social media site on the planet right now. Twitters growth is even outpacing the growth of facebook at this point. That is Huge, that is Important and you need to pay attention.
  • Fact two: Twitter empowers the people like never before. With a camera enabled cell phone with internet access the average person can have a review including a picture of anything broadcast to thousands within seconds. If that review is of a meal he or she just ordered at your restaurant you better hope it’s a good one and if not I’m thinking you may want to at the very least know about it.
  • Fact three: This is only going to get bigger and more important with time. Rumor has it that Twitter will be launching a paid business service before the end of the year.

I could go on but I believe you see where this is going. Social media and at this point Twitter in particular is extremely important to you and the future success of your business and you need to start paying attention. I know you’re busy already and this is going to take more of your time but you simply can’t afford to bury your head in the sand and pretend this doesn’t exist. Perhaps you can delegate this to one of your employees or your business partner and another possibility would be to outsource it. However you decide to deal with it is of course up to you, but whatever you do don’t dismiss this as a passing trend.

So where do I go from here? Who can I turn to for help? Well if it were me I’d head on over to Joel Comm’s book signing next Thursday August 27th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Barnes and Noble in Loveland and pick up this NY Times best selling authors newest book called Twitter Power. Joel is not only a leading expert on using Twitter to dominate your market one tweet at a time, he also lives in Loveland. So with one of the nations leading expects living right here in Loveland there’s really no excuse for not being on top of this emerging technology.

I hope you’ve found this article to be useful and as always I’d love see your feedback in the comments below. And if you make it to the book signing be sure to tell Joel you heard about it on the Directory of Fort Collins.

Just a thought…it might have been useful if you had mentioned where the book signing would be… :-)

    Hi Brian,

Good catch, I should have made mention of the location of the book signing in the article. I will correct that right now.
