lake_lovelandOn June 9th 2009 Loveland, Colorado was named one of America’s 10 “Best Places to Live” by U.S. News & World Report.

The 10 “Best Places to Live” were chosen from a list of more than 2,000 locations nationwide. The criteria used in the selection process included the area’s economy, cost of living, population, crime rate, and access to educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities.

I wonder if any of these facts influenced their vote:

Climate
The city has over 300 days of sunshine a year.
Geography
Loveland is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, in the valley at the beginning of the Big Thompson Canyon.
Cultural Attractions
Loveland was the first Colorado city to adopt an art in public places ordinance. There are currently more than 200 works on display, with an emphasis on bronze sculpture, owing to the number of bronze foundries in the town.
Recreation
The area boasts many lakes and rivers, 27 public parks, and nearby Rocky Mountain National Park.
Fun Fact
The city’s Chamber of Commerce created the Valentine remailing program over 60 years ago. The city receives more than 200,000 valentines from around the world and remails them with a special verse and hand-stamped postmark.

Here’s part of what U.S. News & World Report had to say about Loveland, Colorado

lovelandfrogLocated just outside the breathtaking Rocky Mountain National Park, Loveland, Colo., is considered the “Gateway to the Rockies.” But while it has 27 public parks and nearly 16 miles of recreation trails, it’s Loveland’s affection for man-made beauty that sets this community of 56,000 residents apart. Thanks to its Art in Public Places program, more than 300 pieces of sculpture and two-dimensional works are on display throughout the community. And with a 2008 median home sale price of $186,000, the area’s real estate market is relatively affordable.

Here’s the complete top 10 list of best places to live:

  • Albuquerque, N.M.
  • Auburn, Ala.
  • Austin, Texas
  • Boise, Idaho
  • Durham, N.C.
  • La Crosse, Wis.
  • Loveland, Colo.
