boxbikeBicycles are a great means of transportation and provide an environmentally friendly way of getting around town. They don’t burn fossil fuel or pollute the atmosphere in any way. They are an excellent way to stay in shape and they may also be a great tool with many uses.

The use of utility bikes is certainly not new in many parts of the world, however it may not be something you’ve considered before. A friend of mine told me he’d seen one of the bikes pictured here in Fort Collins the other day and I decided to investigate.

The friend that told me about the utility bike said it had a website address stenciled on it so it was easy to track down the manufacture. For more information about this bike you can follow this link: http://www.joe-bike.com/cargo-bikes/carrier-pigeon/

During my investation I also ran across an article on the Commute by Bike blog that featured a utility bike built by James Bleakley of Black Sheep Custom Bicycles from right here in Fort Collins. You can read that article and see pictures of other utility bikes at this website: http://commutebybike.com/2008/02/10/commuter-bikes-at-handmade-bicycle-show

If you have a utility bike or any unusual bike that you’d like to show off here, please email your pictures to admin@directoryoffortcollins.com and feel free to add a story about your bike if you like.
