CANSColorado State University’s CANS AROUND THE OVAL

October 14.

The Colorado State University Cans Around the Oval Food Bank Drive is the largest of the season for them and is a CSU tradition. The drive partners students, faculty, and staff with local media, area businesses and the community at large to raise awareness about the facts surrounding the issue of hunger, as well as raise food and monetary donations.

If you simply wish to provide donations, you may do so at any time during the event. Last year, nearly 109,000 pounds of food and more than $25,000 was raised for the Food Bank.

If you would like to coordinate a food drive within your organization, and or community group or even within your own neighborhood, the Food Bank For Larimer County wants to help and you can begin by filling out an online application. A Food Bank representative will respond to assist your efforts. You can begin by reading our Food Drive Manual. All of which is available at the Food Bank’s website.

The food bank recommends your food drive to be a maximum of two weeks and ask that no soliciting of any local grocer, Wal-Mart Supercenter, or Sam’s Club be done out of consideration of our ongoing food donor relationships.

The items most in need are: canned dinners, peanut butter, tuna and other canned meats, canned tomato products, low-sugar cereal, canned fruit and vegetables and beans. However they welcome donations of all kinds including: health and beauty items, paper products, toiletries and cleaning supplies. Items that can’t be accepted include anything in opened or damaged packaging.
